Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutritional science in the promotion of optimum health, peak performance and disease prevention by using carefully compiled recommendations for diet and lifestyle.
I studied Nutritional Therapy with The College of Naturopathic Medicine and qualified with a Diploma in Nutritional Therapy. I am a full member of Nutritional Therapists of Ireland (NTOI) and continue to enjoy keeping my knowledge abreast of new research. I am committed to continue my professional development by attending seminars and reading up to date research materials to provide the best possible care.
I have always had a passion for food and have seen both the positive and negative effects it can have. For years, I did not live a healthy lifestyle and suffered the consequences not just on my weight but also on my energy and my outlook on life. Personal thyroid problems and a family illness took me on a journey to nutritional therapy. I decided to embark on a career in nutrition, not only to teach myself how to eat healthy but also to have a positive effect on my family's life. Putting my learnings into practice has not only meant a stable and healthy weight but has also resulted in increased energy and vitality for life.
My true passion is people and the ability to help others make positive and effective changes through food. This is truly a blessing to me. I provide my clients with achievable, tailored nutrition plans designed to address their specific health conditions and motivate them to achieve their long-term health goals. By not only giving advice but providing realistic, easy to follow, tasty recipes and eating plans, I ensure my clients stay on track and are able to incorporate changes into their lives successfully.
My approach is hands-on and personal. On booking your consultation I will ask you to complete a questionnaire and keep a 3 day diet diary, which are to be returned for preliminary analysis before the initial consultation. You will also be asked to bring/list any medications or supplements that you are currently taking. During the initial consultation (lasting 90 minutes), I take a detailed case history, building on the information from the questionnaire, alongside clinic tests where appropriate.
Using this information, we will work together to agree on a programme for you to follow. The programme will work to enhance the systems in the body, such as digestive function, strengthening the immune system, balancing blood sugar levels and helping the body’s natural detoxification pathways. During this consultation we may also discuss the need for functional laboratory tests to fully investigate the underlying causes of your displaying symptoms, as well as the use of supplements if needed.
A nutritional therapist looks at the person, not the disease. We take a very thorough look at your past medical history, your family medical history and what has happened to you along the way which may have contributed to your current condition. At all times we keep in mind what your goals are and how we can help you to achieve them.
Before your first consultation you will be sent a health questionnaire which is a comprehensive review of your health symptoms, and a 3 day food diary. This questionnaire must be returned to me via email for preliminary analysis before the initial consultation. This means the consultation itself will be a lot more focused and productive so it is worth taking half an hour to fill it in carefully. You will also be asked to bring/list any medications or supplements that you are currently taking. An hour together gives us time to outline the basics and get you started on some simple changes. After the appointment you will receive a report via email with more in depth guidelines, further reading and a plan of action which we will have developed together. We are also here at the end of an email in between appointments to help with any questions that may pop up.
During the session we can do some simple tests in the clinic like body composition analysis, taste testing for minerals and IgG food intolerance tests. For more comprehensive testing we use Genova Diagnostics, Regenerus, Cyrex and Biolab (i.e. digestive stool analysis, hormone panels for female hormones and stress hormones, and full screening for overall nutritional status amongst others). Intolerance testing is also available through York/Lorisian. The first session will be an 60 – 90 minutea long and follow ups around 45 minutes.
